Wind has become the least-cost-option for new power generating capacity in an increasing number of markets. With 63 GW added in 2015, the global total now amounts to about 433 GW.
In 2015, Asia was the largest market for the 8th consecutive year, accounting for 53% of added capacity, followed by the EU (20.1%) and North America (16%). All regions but Africa saw market growth relative to 2014.
Dow Corning’s silicones for PV
The solar PV market was up 25% over 2014 to a record 50 GW, lifting the global total to 227 GW. The annual market in 2015 was nearly 10 times the world’s cumulative solar PV capacity of a decade earlier.
To keep up with the market demand, a major technological challenge is related to the use of novel polymeric encapsulation materials along with advancements in processing technologies for module production.
Sunlumo’s One World Collector
Solar thermal technology is used extensively in all regions of the world to provide hot water, to heat and cool space, and for industrial processes.
Cumulative capacity of solar thermal collectors reached 435 GWth by the end of 2015, enough capacity to provide 357 TWh of heat annually.
Sunlumo offers the first plastic-based plug-and-play solar system, enabling resource-efficiency and production rationalization.
