Plastics help conserve resources and energy. Through their functionality and performance characteristics, in many applications they provide the same or even better service at much higher efficiency compared to other materials.
Plastic packaging, for example, is about twice as CO2- and energy conserving over the entire life cycle as alternative packaging materials, even when recycling rates are kept low. Additionally, plastic packaging helps prevent food losses.
